May 19 Update:

Players, Parents and Fans,

We are sad to announce the Ontario Provincial Football League has officially cancelled the Summer season. While we are disappointed with this decision safety is our priority.

A portion of the tryout fee will be applied as a prorated credit to your athletes next season with the Spears. Anyone who has paid the 2020 registration fee will be fully refunded. As of now it would appear that High School football may also be cancelled. If that happens the OPFL will be exploring running in the Fall if safe to do so.

Details regarding refunds, equipment return and future Spears endeavors will be released shortly. Thank you everyone for your patience. Please stay safe.

Rick Tofano

Niagara Spears President

A message from the OPFL:

“The Ontario Provincial Football League, after reviewing the Province of Ontario Health Statements and Guidelines, those of the municipalities represented throughout the province, and the Club representatives has made the difficult decision to cancel activities related to the operation of a 2020 spring/summer football program.”

“The OPFL met with the OFA and received confirmation that all players/coaches registered with the National registry will be receiving a full refund of OFA and Football Canada fees. The OFA office will be reaching out to the Club centers individually to confirm the records held by the OFA are accurate and will systematically process the refund to manner the manner to which it was originally paid. There is no need for your parents to contact the OFA.”

March 28 Update:

As some of you are aware our governing body, The Ontario Football Association (OFA) has suspended all events including face to face meetings, gatherings, training, practices, and games during the month of April.

The Ontario Provincial Football League (OPFL) is also working hard to save our season and are exploring different options to amend the schedule.

This entire situation is completely unpredictable and we are all working tirlessly to keep our athletes safe while working on a plan.

We hope our entire Spears Family is staying safe and healthy during these trying times, and as Coach Duguay has mentioned, if anyone needs anything please do not hesitate to reach out.

Rick Tofano

Niagara Spears President

March 14 Update:

Due to the recent pandemic both the City of Welland and the City of St. Catharines have closed our tryout/practice facilities. Tryouts will resume once the City of St. Catharines re-opens Kiwanis field.

In the mean time, please stay in touch with your coaches, coordinators and governor and frequently check Facebook (and for Junior and Senior- Team Snap) for all up to date information.

Stay healthy and safe!!
